S04 // Urban Dam // Splendor and Misery

The first impressions during the stay at the location were "splendour and misery", as a
comparison of "elite once" and "elite now" - obvious differences and aesthetic disconnection.
Villas and houses that are rotting in one of the most attractive locations in Belgrade. How can these absolutely opposite aspects be connected to create a coherent whole? What is prestige in housing, is it comfort or aesthetics? Is there a right to luxury? Is it comfort or the ability to have more than what we need? Is it material or not? So what does it mean, self-care and balance? Although luxury gravitates towards the private, what would it look like if the opposite were true?
The next step was a comparative study of the spatial organization of former luxury houses, pre-war villas on Senjak, and those that represent it today. From such a graphic comparison, the composition of the urban complex, and further the unit itself, resulted.
Everyone has the right to their own expression and authenticity, which should be represented through visually eccentric housing units, with the aim that it all works together, and with complementary contents in part of a community, like a large neighborhood, connected through external galleries and vertical communications.
